Seven Protocols ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP)
About NCAP
ASEAN NCAP is an ASEAN New Car Assessment Program.
It is a vehicle safety assessment program established in 2011 through collaboration between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and the Global New Car Assessment Program (Global NCAP).
🔹 Purpose:
To evaluate and rate the safety performance of vehicles sold in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region.
To provide consumers with transparent safety information so they can make informed decisions when purchasing vehicles.
To encourage manufacturers to improve vehicle safety standards for the Southeast Asian market.
🔹 How it works:
Vehicles are tested under specific crash scenarios (frontal offset crash, side impact, pedestrian protection, etc.).
Safety Assist Technologies (e.g., seatbelt reminders, electronic stability control, autonomous emergency braking) are also assessed.
Each vehicle receives a star rating (1 to 5 stars) reflecting its safety performance.
🔹 Impact:
ASEAN NCAP has raised safety standards in the region, influencing carmakers to equip vehicles with features like airbags, ISOFIX child restraint systems, and electronic stability control, even for entry-level models.
